Taking in the light

I took these photos last week and never got around to uploading them til now. The marigolds on my window are finally budding after several months of care. I think it's cute how they're growing towards the light entering the room- it's as if they're trying to look out the window.
Now that last week's heat wave has passed, reading on the Bowdoin quad is very pleasant, especially in the evenings when the sunlight is that warm, intense orange and the trees cast long shadows. I've started The Poisonwood Bible and have been really enjoying it.

They're good for your heart

I've been realizing that I need some more posts about my summer cooking experiences, so here it goes:

Faith and I have been craving the canned beans sitting in the cabinet, but we've been helpless to access their tastiness without a can opener... that is, until today, when we purchased one from Hannaford. Amidst my daydreams in the library today, I planned this colorful beano medley, which I cooked for my dinner and am happily eating right now with guacamole, salsa and sour cream. Beside beans, I added:
Roasted red peppers
Olives
Tofu chunks
Onions
Garlic
Black pepper
Oregano

And for dessert: a chocolate-blueberry muffin from Wild Oats (with vanilla yogurt, of course).

Just a wetter version of the skies

There's even a rope swing. I'm looking forward to sharing it with Mom, Dad and Nick when they visit next week. (Thanks to Faith for the top photo)
P.S. The title of this post refers to a summery song by Regina Spektor: Folding Chair

Today I...

Went for a run on Pleasant Hill Road
Bought a banana-chocolate muffin from Wild Oats
Ate above muffin with strawberries and vanilla Chobani yogurt
Hiked over Morse Mountain to Seawall Beach and back (Cutie Fur came, too)
Sang "In the Heights" while driving back to Brunswick
Read and then slept on the quad

It was a good day.

Cutie Fur and I enjoy the view atop Morse Mountain

Hustle

This song came on my iPod while I was driving today, and I started thinking about how much I love it. I discovered it last summer, and it's amazing that I still play it almost as frequently as I did back then... that's pretty rare for me and a song.

Weekend at home

A happy Bear on the loop trail

I've spent this past weekend at home; it's been special spending time with my family and being outside. Yesterday Little Tree, Bear and I went for a very long walk in the Preserve, and later I went for an incredible run on Joshuatown Road, my favorite route. The late afternoon sunshine was beautiful, and my newly updated "July Run" playlist pumped me up. In the evening, Mom, Dad, Nick and I ate some black raspberry choco-chip frozen yogurt at Salem Valley Farms. I'm waking up at... prepare yourself... 4:00 am (!!!!) tomorrow so that I can drive back to Brunswick in time for my work with ArtVan, but I'll have a happy weekend behind me to keep me energized.

Quiet changes

I usually forget to bring my camera with me as I walk around throughout the day, though there are many beautiful moments that I would love to record. Here's the quad in all its summer afternoon softness and aliveness!
